Sears Island defenders protest pro-port award ceremony.
May 22, 2009. Augusta. Grassroots conservationists opposed to Governor Baldacci's Sears Island industrial port plan demonstrated outside an awards ceremony in the Governor's Mansion held to reward moderate environmentalists Sierra Club, Islesboro Islands Land Trust, Maine Coast Heritage Trust and others for capitulating to Maine DOT, which hopes to have a large container port built on the 940 acre wild island.
