1/26/07 email from Ron Huber to Maine DMR aquaculture staff, requesting re-start of OK Coral lease approval process -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Aquaculture lease application Eelgrass & Algae - please re-initiate hearing process.
Dear Friends at Maine DMR
I am writing on behalf of Neal Parker, requesting that the new
aquaculture administrator reactivate the decision-making process for
his Bottom Culture of Eelgrass and Algae experimental aquaculture lease.
The Department of Marine Resources reviewed the site in June 2006 (Site
Review # 2006-05E)
Decision making on the project was temporarily suspended some months ago
in order to give another agency, Maine DEP, time to resolve issues
relating to a pier development proposal being reviewed that would
traverse part of our lease site.
The pier development proposal has stalled; a recent conversation with
James Cassida of Maine DEP's Bureau of Land and Water Quality in
Augusta reveals that the DEP has no problem with our aquaculture lease
process moving forward. Indeed the Maine DEP has no MOU or MOA with
Maine DMR on this sort of interagency potential leasing conflict, Jim said.
Neal is fully prepared to bring the application to public hearing at
once. We ask that the Department of Marine Resources schedule a hearing
at the earliest opportunity, so that we can initiate operations at the
site in the early spring of this year.
In the meantime, we'd like to review the dive recordings from the June
2, 2006 dive of our site. Can you send us a copy of them? A DVD or CDROM
would be great, though a VHS would also be acceptable if necessary.
Would also like to review the complete file for our proposal as
Please do not hesitate to contact me by return email or at 207-975-0655

Thanks!
