Subject: lng agreement

I just came across the June article where the Passamaquoddy Tribe signed a development agreement with Quoddy Bay LLC.

The Passamaquoddy Council had no right to sign any agreement regarding the use of our tribal land, which is held in trust by the federal government.

There are approximately 1,600 tribal members at Sipayik alone, not counting the tribal members at Indian Township.

The August 17th vote was a non-binding referendum . There are five hundred and ninety-four tribal members selected by the council that can vote, within a fifty mile radius from Sipayik. Only one hundred and ninety-two voted to host an lng facility. The number of people who did not vote were two hundred and seventy, and one hundred who voted no.

So the tribal way of voting was dishonored by the Governor and Council working the tribal state representative. Such issues, such as the survival of our native people requires a consenses of the MAJORITY. Our voting is not like voting for the President as some people would lead others to believe. The subject of lng should not have even be considered. It should have been thrown out, like the residents of Corea did.

Since the Land Claims Settlement Act of 1980, our rights as natives, our rights as Maine citizens and as American citizens have been compromised by greed, deceit, dishonesty, and cultural upheavel.

If people in other coastal communities did not want LNG, why in the world ANYONE would think the Passamaquoddy Tribe does? I guess MONEY talks.
