On August 18, 2011 protestors from Penobscot Bay Watch put on a puppet show/press conference "Ghost Lobsters in the Sky" in the parking lot of the new AEWC offshore wind lab, just before US Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar spoke inside the building.

At issue:

The Department of Interior and Maine state government support leasing coastal waters to energy companies starting as close as ten miles offshore off Maine

The University of Maine and Bay Watch both support keeping ocean windmills as far offshore as possible, meaning no closer than 70 miles offshore -out over the great basins, and not among the seamounts and coast breaks nearer in.

Even this, a groundfishery expert says, would simply move ocean windfarms out to where the fishing industry's deepwater take place. The wind industry would simply be interfering with a different fishery sector.

Reporters from three networks covered the Penobscot Bay Watch production featuring puppet lobsters of the past present and future, warning against interfering with immovable larval lobster migration routes. More info: go to Maine Offshore Wind Oversight Portal
